The research of Annabella Vitalone is currently focused on pharmacognostic studies of safety profile and pharmacological effects of medicinal plants (and plant derived products) responsible for adverse reactions. In parallel, she conducts monocentric studies of prevalence of use and cognitive investigations of herbal products by specific populations (e.g., pregnant women, lactation, populations of students). To complete the study of the safety profile of herbal products, scientific reviews (hepatotoxicity and green tea multidrug-resistance, benign prostatic hypertrophy treated with medicinal plants,, etc.), manuscripts (suspected adverse reactions from medicinal plants used as laxatives, for weight loss, etc.) and book chapters (phytovigilance, cosmetovigilance) on specific subjects are periodically published.
Since 2003, she has been involved in teaching activities in Pharmacognosy, Phytotherapy, Pharmacology and Toxicology in the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences (of various University), as well as in various post-graduated training programs sponsored by the Pharmacist Association and the European Union. Today, Annabella Vitalone carries out institutional teaching activities in Pharmacognosy in the Pharmacy Degree course (M-Z channel) and in Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences course (single channel).
