Informazioni personali

Bruno Botta è nato nel 1954 e si è laureato in Chimica nel 1977 presso l’Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza”. Dal 1981 al 1992 è stato ricercatore universitario presso l'Università Cattolica di Roma. Dal 1984 al 1985 ha svolto un periodo di post-dottorato presso il Dipartimento di Chimica della University of British Columbia (UBC, Vancouver, Canada) lavorando sulla sintesi e biosintesi di alcaloidi antitumorali della famiglia della vinblastina-vincristina. Nel 1992 diventa Professore Associato di Chimica Organica presso la Facoltà di Farmacia dell’Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza” e dal 2001 è Professore Ordinario. Dal 2011 è Direttore del Dipartimento di Chimica e Tecnologie del Farmaco presso l’Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza”. Dal 15 Novembre del 2014 è Pro Rettore all’Internazionalizzazione presso l’Università di Roma La Sapienza. Il 16 Marzo 2015 è stato nominato Chair della Azione Cost 1407 "Challenging organic syntheses inspired by nature - from natural products chemistry to drug discovery".
E’ stato invitato a tenere conferenze nelle seguenti università: Michigan State University (USA), Wofford College Spartanburg (USA), The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla (USA), University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada), Universidad de Montevideo (Uruguay), Stanford University (USA), Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (Brasile), Toho University, Chiba, Tokyo (Japan). E’ autore di 150 pubblicazioni, di cui 5 brevetti (2 nazionali e 3 internazionali - USA e Europa). Inoltre è autore di 10 libri e curatore di due testi didattici di Chimica Organica per la casa editrice Edi-Ermes. 


Bruno Botta was born in 1954 and got his Laurea in Chemistry in 1977 at "Sapienza" University of Rome. During the years 1984-1985, he was appointed as postdoctoral associate at the Department of Chemistry of the University of British Columbia (UBC, Vancouver, Canada) working on the synthesis and biosynthesis of clinically important anticancer alkaloids of the vinblastine-vincristine family. From 1981 to 1992 he was appointed as assistant professor (ricercatore) at the Catholic University of Rome. From 1992 to 2001 he was appointed as associate professor of organic chemistry at "Sapienza" University of Rome (Faculty of Pharmacy) and became full professor at the same University in 2001. Since 2011, he is Head of the Dipartimento di Chimica e Tecnologie del Farmaco and in November 2014 he has been nominated Deputy Provost for the Internationalization of the University of Rome "La Sapienza”. Since March 16 2015, he is Chair of the Cost Action CM-1407 "Challenging organic syntheses inspired by nature - from natural products chemistry to drug discovery".
He was invited to give lectures in the following universities: Michigan State University (USA), Wofford College Spartanburg (SC, USA), The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla (CA, USA), University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada), Universidad de Montevideo (Uruguay), Stanford University (CA, USA), Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (Brazil), Toho University, Chiba, Tokyo (Japan).
He is author of 150 publications, including 5 patents (3 national and 2 international – USA and Europe), and, beside that, he is author and co-author of 10 books. For the Italian publishing house Edi-Ermes he edited 2 text books of Organic Chemistry.

Aree di interesse: 
  • La prima linea di ricerca ha consentito di isolare e sintetizzare alcuni composti biologicamente attivi, quali dei guanidoderivati ad attività ipotensiva. Le reazioni di biotrasformazione sono state condotte utilizzando enzimi vegetali purificati (perossidasi e preniltrsferasi). Le perossidasi sono state impiegate in studi di cinetica enzimatica utilizzando dei substrati sintetici che rappresentano i precursori diretti di molecole ad alto valore aggiunto (quale ad esempio il Vepesid o Etoposid).

  • La seconda linea di ricerca ha permesso di mettere a punto un nuovo procedimento sintetico per ottenere dei macrocicli noti con il nome di resorc[4]areni. Sono stati preparati anche dei resorcareni chirali (impiegati in studi di enantiodiscriminazione in fase gassosa e in soluzione) e dei “resorcareni-capped” porfinici (impiegati in studi di incapsulamento di ioni cobalto).
