Pietro Matricardi è Professore Associato presso l'Università La Sapienza di Roma.   La sua attività di ricerca è focalizzata sullo sviluppo di nuovi materiali basati su polisaccaridi per il drug delivery e per applicazioni di ingegneria tissutale. A tale riguardo, svolge attività di ricerca su sistemi macro e micro idrogel, su compresse, microsfere e nanoidrogel polisaccaridici autoassemblanti. Tra i vari sistem idrogel, particolare attenzione è dedicata ai Interpenetrated Polymer Networks basati su polisaccaridi o polisaccaridi / sistemi polimerici sintetici. All'interno del Matricardi Lab, nel 2016 è stata fondata l'unità speciale "PolyRome" con lo scopo di assistere le aziende pubbliche e private nello sviluppo di nuovi prodotti. "PolyRome" è specializzato nella caratterizzazione fisico-chimica di matrici polimeriche per applicazioni biomediche, cosmetiche e alimentari.   Il Prof. Pietro Matricardi è attualmente docente di "Tecnologia Farmaceutica" ed ex doente di "Macromolecole", e "Sicurezza in Laboratorio", presso la Facoltà di Farmacia e Medicina, Sapienza Università di Roma. È anche Presidente del Corso di Laurea in "Scienze farmaceutiche applicate".   Il Prof. Pietro Matricardi ha conseguito il suo M.Sc. (Laurea) in Chimica (1989) e il suo dottorato di ricerca (1993) presso l'Università La Sapienza di Roma. Nel 1993 è entrato a far parte del gruppo Lepetit nel sito di Anagni all'interno dell'unità di sviluppo analitico. Nel 1994 si è trasferito all'unità di valutazione del rischio dell'INAIL, l'azienda pubblica italiana per l'assicurazione contro gli infortuni sul lavoro e le malattie professionali. Nel 2004 è entrato a far parte del Dipartimento di Chimica e Tecnologie del Farmaco, dell'Università Sapienza di Roma, svolgendo il ruolo di Ricercatore e Docente.   Il Prof. Matricardi ha pubblicato oltre 90 lavori su riviste internazionali peer-reviewed, partecipando come relatore a numerose conferenze e scrivendo un libro e alcuni capitoli di libri.   Il prof. Pietro Matricardi è attualmente Presidente del CRS Italy Chapter (Controlled Release Society). È inoltre membro della Society for Biohydrogels (membro del consiglio direttivo), ADRITELF (Associazione Docenti e Ricercatori Italiani di Tecnologia e Legislazione Farmaceutica) e SIR (Associazione Italiana di Reologia).
