EDUCATION & ACADEMIC EMPLOYMENT 

1993: Master Degree in “Medicinal Chemistry”, achieved with full marks (“magna cum laude”) at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome defending a thesis entitled: “Novel chiral stationary phases containing L- and D-phenylalaninamide for the ligand-exchange chromatography of amino acids derivatives”, supervisor Prof. Francesco Gasparrini.

1998: Ph.D. Degree in “Pharmaceutical Sciences” obtained at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome (Dipartimento di Studi di Chimica e Tecnologia delle Sostanze Biologicamente Attive) defending a Ph.D. thesis entitled “Synthesis and evaluation of new chiral stationary phases for the direct resolution of racemates by HPLC”, supervisor Prof. Francesco Gasparrini (from 1994 to 1997).

1999: awarded the Farmindustria Prize “New researchers generation” by the Italian Chemical Society

1999-2004: temporary fellowship at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome (Organic Chemistry).

2004-2015: assistant professor of organic chemistry at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome.

 

CURRENT POSITION

Since 2015, she is associate professor of organic chemistry at the Sapienza University of Rome (Dipartimento di Chimica e Tecnologie del Farmaco).

Since 2018, she received the Italian National Scientific Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale, ASN) as full professor of organic chemistry.

 

PUBLICATIONS 

Ilaria D'Acquarica is author of 76 papers published in international journals, 6 book chapters and 2 patents, and has presented her results in many national and international meetings.

The H-index for her scientific production is 27 (Source: Scopus, collection period: February 2022).

 

REVIEWER ACTIVITY

Since 2001, she is serving as a referee mainly for the Journal of Chromatography A and B (Elsevier, The Netherlands), Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis (Elsevier, The Netherlands) and a variety of both analytical and pharmaceutical journals.

In 2006, she was awarded the Top Referee 2006 certificate by the Journal of Chromatography A, and in 2016 the Best Referee 2016 certificate by the Jounal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis.

Separation chemistry; HPLC analysis of complex biological samples; synthesis, characterization and evaluation of conventional (achiral) and novel (chiral) stationary phases for HPLC, UHPLC and HRGC applications; resolutions of chiral compounds (drugs, food, biologically active substances, metabolites in biological fluids).

  2. Biotransformations of organic substrates by enzymatic preparations.

  3. Enantioselective molecular recognition in the gas phase by resorc[4]arenes receptors.

  4. Purification and characterization of naturally occurring small molecules with anticancer activity (inhibition of the Hedgehog signaling pathway).
