Curriculum Ecological Sciences

Coordinator: Prof. Sandra Urbanelli

The Ecological Sciences curriculum for the PhD in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology Program is designed to provide excellent scientific qualification in the field of environmental complexity, with particular attention to the structural and functional characteristics of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and the services they provide. The aim is to train highly qualified professionals, whom will be able to carry out both basic and applied research in Ecological Sciences, complying with national and international regulations. Research will mainly cover aspects related to the study of biological diversity and its evolutionary processes and the analysis of ecological processes and issues concerning sustainability, environmental monitoring and recovery. The use of innovative methods, regarding both field and laboratory work, as well as statistical analysis, will receive particular attention during the course. Doctoral training will involve the teaching of different methodological approaches, ranging from molecular to organism, population, community and ecosystem levels. All students will share a common theoretical-practical training, complemented by a focus on specific topics and questions related to the research project carried out by each student.
