About

The Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications was established on 1st of July 2010 by joining the former Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of Information Science and Technique (known with its acronym INFOCOM) in the frame of reorganization of Sapienza University.

Although recently established the historical roots of the Department began several decades ago. In fact both former origin departments came from the old Institute of Electronics founded in 1960 when the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering was established for the first time in Italy. In the ‘60s the growth of the Engineering Faculty of Sapienza University determined the creation of the Institute of Automatics and of the Institute of Electrical Communications in 1972.

In 1983 the reform of the Italian University transformed the Institutes into Departments, hence the former institutes gave rise to the Department of Electronics, later on renamed Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Systems and Automatics and the Department of Information Science and Technique.

Research at DIET is carried out in the frame of several national and international projects focussed on the development of both cabled and wireless transmission systems and networks, radar systems, remote sensing systems, electronic measurements, sensors, multimedia and bioengineering applications.

DIET researchers can also provide technical consulting activity for industrial companies and public institutions.

Professors of DIET carry out their teaching activities in several graduate and undergraduate programs of the Engineering Faculties of Sapienza University. In particular they are involved in tutoring PhD students of the graduate programs in Electronic Engineering, in Electromagnetics, in Information and Communication Engineering and in Remote Sensing Engineering.
