The BA Programme in Philosophy offers basic courses in all subject areas of contemporary philosophy, including: hermeneutic-continental and analytic theoretical philosophy; logics, epistemology and philosophy of science; moral philosophy, philosophy of religion, anthropological philosophy, bioethics and gender studies; aesthetics; philosophy of language; political and social philosophy.
The faculty includes a large number of professors for each subject area with different interests and backgrounds (both national and international) to provide our students with a wide range of opportunities. The department provides students with an education on the historical contexts and philosophical thinking (but not only) in the West from antiquity to today with forays into Arabic and Jewish thought.
Moreover, in relation to the higher learning programmes offered by the Department (Masters Programmes, Level II Master Course and PhD), students may acquire fundamental knowledge and skills related to specific philosophical lexicons, the interpretation and understanding of texts, current research tools (including on-line tools), the argumentative reconstruction of issues and problem-solving, presentation and communication skills and an excellent oral and written command of the language (not only in Italian, but also in a foreign language).
The Department of Philosophy (ranked first in the 2004-2010 Research Quality Assessment amongst all Philosophy Departments of in major Italian universities) is located in the Villa Mirafiori historical park, where students can take advantage of a wide range of services (personal tutoring, IT facilities, one of the biggest and richest Italian libraries in the field of philosophy) as well as the various other institutes located here, such as the ILIESI (Institute of the Italian National Research Council for the European Intellectual Lexicon and the History of Ideas), the Fondazione Gentile, the Archivio Scaravelli, and the Istituto di Studi Filosofici Enrico Castelli.

The MA Programme in Philosophy offers specialized courses (in Italian and other languages, particularly English) in all subject areas of contemporary philosophy, including: hermeneutic-continental and analytic theoretical philosophy; logics, epistemology and philosophy of science; moral philosophy, philosophy of religion, anthropological philosophy, bioethics and gender studies; aesthetics; philosophy of language; political, social and legal philosophy.
The faculty includes a large number of professors for each subject area with different interests and backgrounds (both national and international) to allow students to custom tailor their own educational careers.
The Masters Programme delves into historical contexts and philosophical thinking (and not only) in the West from antiquity to present day, with forays into Arabic and Jewish thought, to provide students with access to the working world or to higher learning programmes offered by the Department (Level II Master Course and PhD). Various different teaching methods employed (particularly seminars) to favour the acquisition of critical knowledge, the active use of theoretical and methodological tools, the development of interpretive, analytic and argumentative skills, and the fluent use of at least one EU language besides Italian. The presence of foreign students and international visiting fellows allow the department to offer contacts and exchanges beyond the Italian national panorama.
