MMMS@DISG Modeling thin plates of polymer gels

Using a suitable version of the principle of virtual powers we derive 
a plate theory that couples deformation with solvent diffusion.  We use
two numerical benchmarks to assess the accuracy
of the resulting model with respect to its parent three-dimensional
theory. Our results suggest that this plate theory may offer an efficient
computational framework to investigate swelling-induced
morphing of thin, plate-like specimens of polymer gels.
