New advanced composite blades design methodologies can significantly impact the performance and reliability of wind turbine technologies. Current approaches employed in designing composite turbine blades, resort to sophisticated multi-physics codes taking into account fluid-structure interaction. Severe load cases and the potential for real-time predictions of damage progression will be discussed. Several aspects of current wind turbine projects including modeling and blade structural testing will be discussed.
