Ph.D. Course in Cell and Developmental Biology

This Ph.D. Course is offered by the "Dipartimento di Biologia e Biotecnologie Charles Darwin (BBCD)", which was founded in 2010 following the reorganization of the Departments of the Biology Area in Sapienza. The Department includes professors and staff of the former Departments “Biologia Animale e dell’Uomo”, “Biologia Cellulare e dello Sviluppo” and “Genetica e Biologia Molecolare”, and the diversity of their scientific and educational aims.

Internationalization is a main objective of the Course and is pursued as follows:

  • graduate students enrolled in the 2nd year are encouraged to spend a study period abroad of at least three months, preferably all in one block of time, supported by this Ph.D. School. They are also prompted to apply, for financial support, to International Sources (for example, EMBO short-term fellowship and others);
  • graduate students are encouraged to obtain the “Doctor Europaeus” title (see Guidelines for the Graduate students).
  • graduate student are required to write their reports and thesis in the style of high-level scientific International journals (see Guidelines for the Graduate students)
  • collaboration are fostered with foreign Research Institutions;
  • foreign thesis tutors are engaged;
  • foreign teachers are invited;
  • lessons, seminars and interviews are given in a foreign language;
  • foreign doctoral students are present at the university;
  • announcement of selection is also in English;
  • foreign referees participate to the evaluation of the Ph.D. thesis;
  • foreign members participate in the committee for the final exam.
