The Quadraccia Herbarium

Livio Quadraccia (1958-1993) was a mycologist at Sapienza University of Rome from 1986 to 1993. The expertise he acquired in this discipline, combined with scientific rigour, allowed him to range from taxonomy and systematics, to mycocenology in Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean ecosystems, to the mycoflora of the Lazio and Abruzzo regions. In particular, he published new combinations and new species in the genus Hebeloma, of which he was considered the greatest expert. At the Botanical Garden of Rome, his place of work, in addition to his research activity, he was responsible for the preparation, conservation and improvement of the mycological herbarium, later acquired by the Herbarium of Sapienza University, and the Mycotheque. His large collection, preserved in paper envelopes, is precious for the presence of both numerous type specimens and rare taxa.
