The "PROTECT" project (Patologie del distRettO TEsta Collo nei minori migranTi) (Pathologies of the Neck TEST DISTRICT in migrant minors) "From operator training to early diagnosis and patient care: Dental, Ophthalmological, Otorhinolaryngology and Maxillofacial Network" was born in 2018 thanks to a collaboration with the 'AOU Policlinico Umberto I in Rome, the Departments of Odontostomatological and Maxillofacial Sciences and Sense Organs of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, the University Language Center (CLA), the Research Center for Cooperation with Eurasia, the Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan Africa (CEMAS) and the National Institute of Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL)./p>

The aim of the project is to protect the health of refugees and migrants, including minors, but also to contribute to the strengthening of the different competences of the regional reception services system and of the regional health system. PROTECT aims to evaluate and treat the main pathologies present in the head and neck area in migrant patients, thanks to the establishment of a multidisciplinary team consisting of dentists, otolaryngologists, ophthalmologists and maxillofacial surgeons. It works in reception centers and cultural associations for migrants in order to intercept pathological conditions and, subsequently, to subject patients to therapeutic treatment who, depending on the urgency, are sent to the specialist structures of the Emergency Department or to the outpatient clinics for programming of deferred interventions.
