Orto Botanico

Sin dal 1600 in Italia gli Orti Botanici erano considerati  luoghi dove poter studiare e coltivare piante provenienti da ogni parte del mondo per valutarne le potenzialità. I nobili le utilizzavano infatti per abbellire i giardini, gli speziali per arricchire il gusto delle diete locali e i medici per estrarre composti curativi. 
L’Orto Botanico di Roma fu fondato a metà del ‘600 quando il papa Alessandro VII donò alla Sapienza l'intero Gianicolo per farne il suo Orto Botanico. E da quel momento è iniziata un’affascinante storia che dura ancora oggi!!!

Il video vi farà scoprire le bellezze e le eccellenze scientifiche dell’Orto Botanico di Roma, un vero e proprio museo vivente che oggi ospita nei bellissimi giardini rinascimentali di Villa Corsini a Trastevere più di 3000 specie di piante provenienti da tutto il mondo. Il nostro Orto Botanico è un luogo dove ricerca scientifica, educazione ambientale, cultura, eventi, mostre, laboratori convivono insieme per accorciare le distanze tra scienza e società e per difendere la biodiversità.
L’ Orto ospita anche numerose piante a rischio di estinzione che sono successivamente reintrodotte nel loro ambiente naturale e partecipa a numerosi progetti di cooperazione internazionale che promuovono la sostenibilità ambientale.

Since 1600, botanical gardens in Italy were considered places where plants from all over the world could be studied and cultivated in order to assess their potential. The nobility used them to embellish their gardens, apothecaries to enrich the taste of local diets and doctors to extract curative remedies. 
The Botanical Garden of Rome was founded in the mid seventeenth century when Pope Alexander VII endowed the whole of the Janiculum Hill to Sapienza to establish its Botanical Garden. From that moment on, a fascinating history began that still lasts today!!!

The video will introduce you to the wonders and scientific excellences of the Botanical Garden of Rome, a veritable living museum that today houses more than 3,000 plant species from all over the world in the beautiful Renaissance gardens of Villa Corsini in Trastevere. 
Our Botanical Garden is a place where scientific research, environmental education, culture, events, exhibitions and workshops coexist together to reduce the distance between science and society and to defend biodiversity.
The garden is also host to numerous endangered plants that are then reintroduced to their natural environment and participates in numerous international cooperation projects promoting environmental sustainability.
