VISA

Italy is one of the countries of the so-called Schengen Area. Participants are requested to familiarize themselves with their own applicable visa requirements well in advance of the Conference. Present worldwide security regulations result in generally more stringent visa requirements and associated visa processing time. All important information and application for visa forms can be found on the dedicated webpage of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a guided procedure will help you decide if you need to apply for a visa based on your nationality, country of residence, reasons for your visit and length of stay. If you need a visa for Italy, you will be provided with all the information and forms needed to submit your application.

PIERS 2019 in Rome organizers will not intervene with Embassies or Consulates on behalf of any participant and her/his possible accompanying persons. The official invitation letter can be downloaded after login from the personal account of the PIERS website, once the abstract is accepted and the registration fees are paid. If you need the original hardcopy of the PIERS invitation letter, you need to pay the delivery fee in advance (to ask before April 30, 2019).

Important information for applicants requiring a visa to Italy from China

The applicants from China should apply for "Culture VISA" to attend the Conference. This is a strict and peremptory rule, we inform that we cannot issue any documents for a Business VISA and, in any case, if somebody asks for Business VISA to attend a conference, the Italian Embassy will change on its own decision the application in Culture VISA. Further information can be found here; go to the "Download Form" tab to download the Visa Application Form and the Sport and Cultural Events document checklist.

In order for the applicants to apply, we will provide an invitation letter and the ID card of the person that signed the invitation. As per our direct calls to the Italian Embassy in Beijing, we verified that NO HARD COPIES are necessary for applying, therefore both invitation letter and ID card will be sent by e-mail.

To request such documents, the applicant must send in advance to the PIERS Secretariat (secretariat.piers2019@uniroma1.it) the following documents:

  • copy of her/his passport;
  • PDF file of the receipt of registration payment;
  • declaration, properly filled and signed, which can be downloaded here.

We will assist the applicant by sending the invitation letter and the ID card of the person that signed the invitation. General information about Culture VISA in the Schengen Area can be found here.
