Borrowing

Borrowing is the service that allows you to take a bibliographic resource (books, DVDs, etc.) out of a library for a certain number of days.

Regardless of faculty of enrollment, you may borrow books or other bibliographic resources from any Sapienza library.

In general, all resources owned by Sapienza libraries can be borrowed. There are some exceptions, such as periodicals, theses, encyclopedias, dictionaries, antique books, etc.

Once a book or other resource has been found in the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue, you can check if the "Borrowing request" button is available through which send your request directly to the library.

It is possible to borrow books through the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue. Once you have found a book or other resource just click on the "Borrowing request" button and enter your credentials. Follow the link in the pop-up and you will be direct to the specific service online (Sportello prestito). Then, just select the day/time and book your reservation. No more booking confirmation email to wait for. The updated procedures are always available on the dedicated webpage

Borrowing time length varies by library and resource type. The minimum borrowing time is 15 days. From your personal space in the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue it is possible to check current borrowings and expiration dates.

A running borrowing can be renewed from your personal space by accessing the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue or by contacting the specific library via email. You cannot renew a loan if it has expired or if another user has reserved the book.

No, you can’t. An expired loan cannot be renewed.

To return a borrowed book it is necessary to book the service through the Booking webpage, selecting Pick-up/return service, the library to bring the book back and the "Sportello restituzione". Then, select day/hour from the calendar.

If you are late with a book return, you must bring the book back to the library from which it was borrowed as soon as possible. The library will then apply a borrowing suspension of varying lengths according to the current policies.

From the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue it is possible to know if a book is already borrowed and for how long. In many cases it is also possible to reserve a book so that you will be notified when it is returned and will not be allowed to renew the loan.
