SPACE MISSIONS AND GRAVITATIONAL PHYSICS

Credits: 9

Learning objectives
After a hundred years of research , general relativity was fully recognized as an important topic in aerospace engineering : in fact a number of fundamental space applications need corrections provided by this theory .  The first part of the course concerns the gravitational theory of general relativity, whereas the second part describes in depth Spatial Experiments of this theory and some of its main applications : from the experiment LARES , GRAVITY PROBE on A, B and GRAVITY PROBE LISA . An important application treated in the course  is the satellite navigation ( GPS , GLONASS , Galileo and COMPASS ) requiring corrections provided by the general relativity.
