Digital Therapeutics have made much progress over the past decade, harnessing technology to supplement or potentially replace traditional clinical therapy. Smartphone apps and wearable devices can potentially complement traditional treatment by helping patients manage their condition, including informing when and how much medication to take while some offer alternative treatments to drugs. However designing advanced health monitoring systems is still an active research topic. In this talk we will present recent technological developments in wearable electronics, data analytics and artificial intelligence, to enable the analysis and interpretation of physiological and clinical parameters (heart rate, glucose, respiration rate, temperature, etc.) and analysis using machine-learning algorithms and decision-support systems to predict critical clinical states. Two specific cases will be examined that focus on (a) heart monitoring using a supervised-learning approaches to detect heartbeats and classify arrhythmias and (b) short-term blood glucose level prediction using univariate algorithms. Standard methods to evaluate the performance of the system will be presented in terms of achieved accuracy and precision.
