Surgical robotics: current achievements and future developments

In this seminar, after a short historical perspective on the introduction of robots in the surgical field, we will provide an overview of the main robotically-assisted surgical systems currently used in the clinical practice and the research lines that are shaping the future of robot-assisted surgery.

While not entering into technical details, the talk will point out the challenges and opportunities of today’s quest for professionals with a strongly interdisciplinary formation.

The seminar will end with a hands-on session during which it will be possible to test the open-source 3D simulator of the da Vinci Surgical System developed by the authors for designing and validating new control algorithms and surgical tools.
