Teaching

The teaching activity carried out by Social Sciences and Economics aims to provide 6 degree courses set out in three scientific disciplinary areas, each of which includes a three year undergraduate and a five year undergraduate- post graduate course.

These degree programs have different admission requirements.

An admissions test is taken by all applicants for the three year programs in Sociology, in Social service techniques and sciences and in International economic relationships. The test is exclusively aimed at assessing the level of knowledge, but its results not preclude the possibility to enrol. Further information on the admissions test is published annually on the call for applications.

To enrol in the two year degree programs (II cycle), applicants have to meet the prerequisite requirements and personal preparation relatedto each course: the method of carrying out such checks is set out in the Programs Regulations and can be found in the second part of the University Teaching Regulations.

The Department also offers:

PhD School: open to students with postgraduate degrees. It last three years and admission is decided through a selection based on academic qualifications
Masters: courses offering a high level of scientific knowledge and a high standard of permanent and continuing training. They are aimed at both students and professionals who feel the need to update their qualifications. Applicants must hold a degree from a three year program (I cycle) for a level 1 Master course; a degree from a two years program (II cycle)for a level 2 Masters), or their equivalents.

SOCIOLOGY AND APPLIED SOCIAL RESEARCH AREA

Three year degree program (I cycle) in Sociology (degree classification L-40)

This degree program provides students with the knowledge and operating ability needed to operate in numerous sectors: in health, in social services, in the area of security, in the fields of social, economic and cultural policy, in the evaluation of social impact on the environment, in analysis of production and consumption, in the organisation of work, in mediation and conciliation, in the prevention of inequality, poverty and social exclusion, and in international relations to support activities aimed at co-operation for development and rehabilitation.
During the third and final year it is possible to opt for a study specialisation, choosing from one of the four disciplinary curricula on offer: 1) socio-economic, 2) socio-political, 3) socio- territorial 4) socio-cultural.

Two years degree program (II cycle) in Sociology for sustainability and analysis of global processes (degree classification LM-88)

This II cycle degree program is the natural progression of the three-year degree in Sociology.. Graduates in Applied Social Sciences work as research specialists, consultants and experts in the following fields: 1) organisation of work, selection, training, and the management and development of human resources 2) mediation, communication, and relationship aspects 3) the analysis and evaluation of public policy, of health organisations, of urban and security policies 4) industrial relations, employment and marketing consultancy 5) and in international relations and co-operation for development and peacekeeping processes.

SOCIAL SERVICE AND SOCIAL POLICY AREA

Three-year degree program (I cycle) in Social Service Techniques and Social Work (degree classification L-39)

This degree program develops basic knowledge and skills for the job of Social Worker and for specialist roles in all jobs requiring professional experts for the prevention and handling of situations involving need. The disciplines of Sociology, Psychology, Rights, Economics and Political Science as well as knowledge of social policy, of the organisation of social work and services for citizens come together under this heading. The degree course allows entry to the National examination for enrolment in Section B of the official Register of Social Worker.

Two-year degree program (II cycle) in Project Management and Evaluation of Social Services (degree classification L-87)

This two-year degree program represents a further specialisation in the skills acquired on the I cycle program in Social Service Techniques and Social Work.. The course allows students to deepen their knowledge and methods of planning, managing and evaluating their research activities and their application of research as regards personal services, as well as developing autonomy in decision-taking and directing within both the state administration and social services. The course prepares students for the National examination for entry into Section A - Specialist Social Worker - in the National Register.

ECONOMICS AND INSTITUTIONS AREA

Three-year degree program (I cycle) in International Economic Relations (degree classification L-33)

The degree program in International Economic Relations gives university students a basic grounding in economic matters. It likewise offers specialist knowledge of international economics, an ability to use quantitative, statistical and IT tools.

The course is divided into 180 units (CFU) and includes 18 examinations besides an IT laboratory. The first year is aimed at learning the fundamentals of economics together with elements of public law and sociology. The second and third year training develops “professionality” using training activities that are mainly based on economics integrated with other studies of a legal, quantitative statistical and IT nature. This is to prepare students for an interdisciplinary approach and for critical comparison at a European and Global level.

Two-year degree program (II cycle) in the Economics and policies for global sustainability (degree classification LM-56)

The course offers a solid preparation in economics and statistics to understand the challenges and opportunities linked to the development of sustainable economic policies, oriented towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The course aims to prepare applied economists capable of combining the tools of economic theory with the analysis of public policies and the strategic choices of companies also through specific statistical skills for the quantitative evaluation of the policies themselves.

INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT AREA (interfaculty three-years degree program shared with the faculty of Philosophy, Letters, Human Sciences and Oriental Studies)

Three-year degree program (I cycle) in International Co-operation and Development (degree classification L-37)

The degree program in International Co-operation and Development offers an interdisciplinary approach which prepares the student to evaluate and manage co-operation and development choices and initiatives with particular attention to institutional-legal, socio-economic, historical-anthropological, statistical and geographical aspects.
The course provides an in-depth knowledge of the methods used by multi and bilateral co-operation agencies to develop programmes and projects for co-operation and for peace-keeping missions.

Two-year degree program (II cycle) in the Science of International Development and Co-operation (degree classification LM-81)

The two-years degree program in the Science of International Development and Co-operation offers advanced knowledge in the disciplines of sociology, economics, political studies, history and the law and provides operating tools for the analysis and interpretation of the social, economic, legal and institutional forms found in developing countries, and for the management of processes of international co-operation. It likewise guarantees the advanced skills needed for:

Conceiving, drawing up, introducing and managing integrated co-operation programmes and projects aimed at development.
Application of the main methods used for monitoring and evaluation.
A fluent written and oral use of English and a good knowledge of French and Spanish, with the possibility of communicating in Chinese and Arabic.
The use of tools for communicating and managing information.
