RESEARCH OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS

The objective of this research was to build a knowledge base useful for the development of strategies for the regeneration and enhancement of urban space.

The approach adopted is based on geospatial analysis methods, supported by the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS): digital tools that have made it possible to collect, process, integrate, analyse and visualise heterogeneous data.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS

The research set itself two objectives: that of designing an open modular structure - an urban plug- in - incorporating an evaporative cooling system, supplemented by other passive technologies to guarantee good conditions of psycho-physical and thermal well-being even in the most extreme microclimatic conditions of public space use. The second is the energy and water self-sufficiency of the structure, and its replicability and applicability to existing buildings.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS

With the goal of energy efficiency and energy savings in electrical end-use, there are ample and diverse possibilities for improvement, which include work on the building envelope and plant systems, with the introduction, where possible, of renewable energy sources. This is where the issue of energy redevelopment of the existing stock of public buildings aimed at achieving a performance in line with that of near-zero energy buildings (nZEB) comes in. In this work, the issue of indoor environmental quality of nZEB buildings is addressed, with particular attention to the Indoor Air Quality aspect. The work has seen the identification of a case study representative of the type of buildings of historical and architectural value (subject to protection restrictions) of the Public Administration, used for university activities located in climate zone D, which can be considered a building with high energy performance.
