Semester 1 - Text Analysis - 36 hrs. (this course is linked to 1048129 – English Language III)

The course aims to further develop the four skills to C1 level with particular emphasis on writing and speaking. Students will develop the skills to carry out a linguistic analysis of persuasive texts. During the course students will also work on developing oral skills and will give group presentations on a persuasive text of their choice.  The final exam will be a brief academic essay based on the textual analysis of an advertisement.

Students are expected to   do a considerable amount of work as preparation for lessons. Every two-hour lesson requires at least two hours of preparation as private study. Material will be uploaded onto Google Classroom. Here is the code: 6ksuvyp (MLI 3 TEXT ANALYSIS a.a. 2023/24).

Non attending students should consult Google Classroom and CLA page on a regular basis for course materials.

Semester 2 - Translation - 36 hrs. (this course is linked to 10592750 – Lingua e Traduzione inglese III)

Magistrale 1 September 2023  written  exam results are in  attachments. Students can  see their papers on 3rd October ,  12,00 -13,00 . Please contact me by email  to  book  an  appointment

Magistrale 1 course and exam description can be found in the Guida di Anglistica / English faculty guide in attachments.

Changing Group aa. 23-24:  students requesting to change group firstly need to find a student from  the other group to swap with then send a single email (DO NOT WRITE SEPARATELY TO BOTH TEACHERS) to the teacher of their original group copying it to the teacher of the proposed group explaining the reason for the change. A timetable clash must be fully specified and you should specify whether English is your  first or second language. This must be done within the first FOUR lessons of the semester. Teachers will confirm the change only after reviewing timetable options and class sizes. Those who have not found a pair can be added to a list and lettori can supervise changes at the end of the fourth lesson.

N.B. If you do not intend to attend courses regularly, there is no reason to change group. The lettorato exam is the same for all, attending in either group and non-attending students alike. The Magistrale 1 lettorato exam is skills based and not having mastered the required skills will leave students unprepared for the tasks involved.

Changing Group aa. 22-23:  Students requesting to change group firstly need to find a student from one of the other two groups to swap with then send a single email (DO NOT WRITE SEPARATELY TO BOTH TEACHERS) to the teacher of their original group copying it to the teacher of the proposed group explaining the precise reason for the change and whether English is their first or second language. This must be done within the first FOUR lessons of the semester. Teachers will confirm the change only after reviewing timetable options and class sizes. Please complete the form below.

N.B. If you do not intend to attend courses regularly, there is no reason to change group. The lettorato exam is the same for all, attending and non-attending students alike. The one huge difference is that both LCLT3 and Magistrale 1 lettorato exams are skills based and not having mastered the required skills will leave students unprepared for the tasks involved.

INFORMATION REGARDING GROUP CHANGES

Group changes are not envisaged as access to Edificio Marco Polo is controlled by the university administration and students will be admitted in rotation by matriculation  number, strictly following the pre-established alphabet divisions. Students who change group will not then be admitted to  the building in their new group. For those intending to follow the course exclusively online any requests to change assigned group will be confirmed after reviewing timetable options and class sizes. To be considered for a group change online, students must find a student from another group willing to swap. Online groups must, however, remain roughly equal in numbers and any disparity between group sizes will limit the possibility of changes.
