Title: “Microenvironmental control of hematopoietic regeneration”
 
Abstract:
Hematopoietic microenvironment, or niche, protects hematopoietic stem cells from the deleterious effects of aging and stress on hematopoietic regeneration. However, little is known about specific molecules that mediate this effect. This talk will introduce spatially-resolved single cell RNA-Seq analysis platform for niche factor discovery and describe novel regulators of hematopoietic stem cell quiescence and self-renewal which have been identified using this approach.
 
Dr. Lev Silberstein is a physician-scientist with an interest in the bone marrow microenvironment for hematopoietic stem cells. Originally from Russia, he trained in Internal Medicine and Hematology in London and obtained a PhD in Molecular Hematopoiesis from the University of Cambridge. He subsequently joined the laboratory of Dr David Scadden at Harvard where he focused on discovery of novel regulators of hematopoietic regeneration. In 2017, he established his own group at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
