Summary:
Alzheimer disease (AD) is one of the leading unresolved health burdens accompanying the increase in life expectancy. The great paradigm shift has resulted from finding amyloid deposition and neurofibrillary tangles 20 and 10 years, respectively, before the symptoms. Nowadays we have several stages in Alzheimer’s disease: pre-symptomatic, mild cognitive impairment and dementia mild, moderate, and severe. We could divide the clinical handling in four scenarios: prevention or risk reduction, clinical diagnosis including the use of biomarkers, treatment, and research and clinical trials. All this in Latin America evolves in the context of population diversity and disparity. The purpose of this lecture is to share the results of Alzheimer’s disease management and research in one memory center from Latin America.
