About the school

The specialization school is reserved for graduates in Physics (class LM-17 and class 20/S-new system-3+2 years) and graduates in Physics (old system-4 years) who will obtain the title of: Specialist in Medical Physics.

The Medical Physicist

  • carries out all the collaboration activities with specialist doctors who require specific professionalism in the methodologies of physics
  • Interprets and understands the needs of Medical Specialists, identifying the optimal technical, diagnostic and therapeutic specifications, in relation to technological progress and the intended use.
  • It cooperates in an interdisciplinary way with all the professional figures involved (doctor, engineer, IT, TSRM) in order to achieve the best technical working conditions.
  • Supervises the maintenance of the quality levels that must be met by the equipment used.

ACTIVITY

  • In Radiotherapy: He works alongside the radiotherapist, and is responsible for the physical-dosimetric aspects relating to radiation treatment. It provides for the periodic calibration of the radiation beams with the doses measurement and control
  • In diagnostic imaging: Assumes responsibility, from a physical point of view, for the correct functioning of equipment with a high technological content. It also arranges for the testing and  maintenance of the equipment
  • In Nuclear Medicine: Performs quality control of diagnostic equipment, marked products and radioactive isotope generators. He collaborates in the development of morphological and functional scintigraphic examinations, taking care, in particular, of the aspects related to data and image processing.
  • In Radiation Protection: Responsible for the organization of physical surveillance of radiation protection to ensure the safety of operators, the population and patients. Evaluate the radiation doses to critical organs, or to the embryo in the case of pregnant women, resulting from radiological investigations or treatments.

FRAMEWORK

The specialist physicist is inserted in the health role as manager.
