The Department of General and Specialized Surgery "Paride Stefanini" enhances the objectives and characteristics of the Department of origin, created by its first Director, Prof. Paride Stefanini. The Department's vocation was, from the beginning, aimed at the selection of differentiated activities of General Surgery, from which the Specialties of Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Organ Transplant Surgery were derived, today as then reference to national and international level. More recently, these have been accompanied by disciplines and sub-specialist units of General Surgery (Colorectal and Digestive Surgery, Abdominal Wall Surgery, Bariatric Surgery), expressions of reality that are now well codified. The clinical and research activity of the Department is developed and articulated consistently with its specialist activities, providing a significant assistance and scientific contribution, with levels of excellence in numerous sectors. The constant and continuous invitation to participate in National and International Conferences, addressed to the Professors of the Department, confirms the prestige achieved in Italy and abroad. The didactic contribution of the Department is vast and includes the institutional participation of its Professors in the Degree Courses, the activity of the Specialization Schools of Thoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery, of the PhD in Pathophysiology and Cardio-Thoraco-Vascular Imaging, as well as Specialized Masters in Angiology and Pelvic Floor and Rehabilitation.
