ENPlab is primarily devoted to make experimental research on the cognitive, affective, and motivational bases of mental diseases by using behavioural, as well as psychophysiological and neurobiological paradigms.

Therefore, our mission is to understand what causes and maintains psychological distress by integrating knowledge and research methods from different domains. Especially, our research is guided by the assumption that mental diseases can be explained by the same processes that regulate normal behaviours.

Consistently with Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Neuropsychoanalysis, that try to integrate all evidenced research that advances our understanding of the human mind and brain, without losing sight of the complexity of real, lived experience, our research group integrates experimental psychopatology with the study of the brain processes underlying higher cognitive functions such as: consciousness/anosognosia, body schema, depression, confabulations and also frontal lobe executive control systems.
