Host Institution

The Molecular Oncology Group "Alberto Gulino" is hosted by the Department of Molecular Medicine (DMM) of the School of Medicine of the Sapienza University of Rome.

The School of Medicine of the Sapienza University of Rome, the largest University of Europe, is located inside the Policlinico Umberto I, one of the biggest University Hospitals in Italy. Different excellent core facilities are available for the many research groups, belonging to the DMM, focused on Molecular Pathology, Molecular and Clinical Oncology, Immunology, Haematology, Pathology, Genetics..

The DMM is provided of several excellent core facilities that will provide the project with appropriate technical and intellectual support:

a) Molecular Genetics and Functional Genomics Platforms: a) Molecular Genetics and Functional Genomics Platforms: The existing technological platforms include stations for next generation deep sequencing Illumina, DNA arrays spotting and microchip analysis, automated hybridisation stations, and microarray platforms for expression profiling (expression profiling, SNPs profiling), capillary DNA sequencing, high-throughput DNA sequencing, high-throughput Applied Biosystems 7900HT Real-Time PCR equipments.

b) Cell biology and molecular imaging: confocal microscopy, cell microinjection, time-lapse confocal live videomicroscopy, Laser Capture Microdissection apparatus, Flow Cytometry cell sorting stations, optical imaging equipment.

c) Animal Facility for generation of genetically engineered mice and breeding.

d) GMP cell factory for stem cell isolation and cell therapy.

The DMM is also hosting several PhD Programs (Molecular Medicine, Medical Genetics, Experimental Medicine, Immunological Sciences), providing a very stimulating place for teaching and training students strongly engaged in basic and applied research activities and for exchange of scientific information.
