What about brain Neurophysiology? This talk will discuss converging EEG evidence showing that AD substantially affects cerebral neurophysiological ascending and thalamocortical systems regulating brain arousal and vigilance in wakefulness. Diseases with Lewy bodies also show substantial alterations in EEG activity during wakefulness but with differences in topography and frequency of that activity suggesting peculiar effects on brain arousal and vigilance. Claudio Babiloni received a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and is Associate Professor of Physiology at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology “Erspamer” (Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine) at Sapienza University of Rome. His group investigates neurophysiological brain rhythms underpinning the regulation of vigilance and cognitive functions in aging with a focus on Alzheimer's and Lewy body diseases. Core methods are EEG techniques. His research was supported by European Community and the Italian Ministries of University and Health. The findings of his research were published in over 300 articles in international journals.
