Iohn and/or Giovanni Florio - Sapienza, June 13-14, 2024

On June 13th and 14th 2024, the Department of European, American, and Intercultural Studies at Sapienza University of Rome will host the international conference titled Iohn and/or Giovanni Florio: Tradition and Innovation in Florian Studies. The event will be convened by Prof. Donatella Montini and will feature keynote speakers Guyda Armstrong (University of Manchester), Warren Boutcher (Queen Mary, University of London), and Stefano Villani (University of Maryland), alongside other scholars from Italian and international universities.

This conference aims to explore the multifaceted areas of linguistic contact shaped by the prominent figure of the Anglo-Italian John Florio (1553-1625) within the lively tapestry of the Elizabethan court during the early modern period. Florio is not “our contemporary," but he is certainly an excellent case study for investigating the linguistic phenomena and textual forms of the early modern age through an updated lens of analysis.

Further details can be found in the attached poster and programme.

Friends and colleagues of the SPSS who wish to participate online via Zoom can send an email to Prof. Montini (donatella.montini@uniroma1.it) and Dr. Fabio Ciambella (fabio.ciambella@uniroma1.it).

We look forward to seeing you in person in Rome or online.
