Why studying Safety and Civil Protection Engineering

The master's degree program in Safety and Civil Protection Engineering represents a response to the demand for transformation of production processes which has led to the conception of new products and services with a high degree of interconnection.

The skills necessary to support this process of change are certainly centered on the attitude of team work and problem solving, which requires competence, creativity and ingenuity.
The importance of issues relating to competent design and effective implementation of security, in the context of the new approach summarized by Industry 4.0, is specific to the master's degree program in Safety and Civil Protection Engineering. The course, partly provided in English since the last academic year, provides advanced level training to operate in the design and implementation of the security of complex systems.

The training curriculum explores some basic cultural topics preparatory to the acquisition of specialist and innovative skills related to risk assessment and prevention in various sectors (construction, works, infrastructure, industrial plants, complex systems).
The course therefore provides basic training common to the three areas (civil-environmental, industrial and mining & petroleum safety), with in-depth analysis of regulatory and economic issues, occupational hygiene and health prevention, security systems, risk analysis , fire prevention and electrical safety systems. Downstream there are three curricula: one aimed at safety in the civil-environmental field, one at industrial safety and a third at safety in mining and petroleum.
The skills acquired in the respective curricula are differentiated in these terms:

  • Civil safety and protection in the civil-environmental field: it is a training course that predisposes to the evaluation of natural and anthropic risks, to the management of safety in construction activities, to the protection of the territory through the monitoring of the same and the planning and management of emergencies.
  • Civil safety and protection in the industrial sector: it is a training course addressed to the management and metadata management of the safety of production plants through the knowledge of maintenance procedures and aspects of reliability and safety of work processes.
  • Mining & petroleum safety: is a training course that allows you to operate in the oil and mining safety sectors, characterized by the demand for high standards and technical and technological requirements. The interdisciplinary approach and international interest on these topics also require specific skills to operate in different social and working contexts.

The professional profile of the master's degree in Safety and Civil Protection Engineering summarizes the skills necessary for the figure of the security expert and risk analyst capable of carrying out activities in favor of all sectors of engineering in a transversal way construction companies, design companies, goods and services production companies, public and private bodies, production plants, and to hold roles of responsibility in terms of safety management at factories, installations and industrial and civil infrastructures, public and private companies .

The skills acquired also make it possible to assume the role of head of security in the control and supervisory bodies of the Public Administration, as designer of security, control and monitoring systems.
In particular, the master's degree is suitable to fill the role of employee in charge of verifying safety reports, emergency planning and territorial planning, the role of safety and security manager in the sector of public and / or private companies, construction sites, infrastructure, commercial, banking and insurance activities, in public and private entities.
In summary, the course prepares the profession of engineer expert in the safety of infrastructures and civil works, industrial and manufacturing plants and, more generally, complex systems.
