Rose garden

The Rose Garden has been designed to show the derivation of the current cultivated roses from the original spontaneous one. The original roses have been planted in the upper area of the garden and are followed by the cultivated ones in the middle and lower part.
Spontaneous roses may be recognized because they have simple flowers, composed of 5 petals.
The most important roses among the ancient garden ones have originated from Rosa gallica L., Rosa phoenicia Boiss., Rosa canina L., and other taxa commonly known as di Rosa moschata s.l. Modern garden roses show the phenomenon of re-flowering.
There is also a collection of Italian roses.
