PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology

DESCRIPTION AND AIM OF THE COURSE
The PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology aims to provide the PhD students with i) the theoretical and practical cultural bases to prepare for a research career in Molecular, Cellular and Behavioral Pharmacology and Toxicology; ii) to tackle the pharmacotoxicological problems concerning the exposure to natural and synthetic substances at the experimental and regulatory level.
These aims are pursued through the active participation of the student in research projects carried out at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology of Sapienza University of Rome and, when possible, in other international Centers, including foreign Universities that have scientific collaborations with the Department.
PhD students will acquire autonomous ability to plan and implement both basic and applied research projects. In addition, they will acquire critical assessment capabilities for experimental protocols, guidelines and standard operating procedures.
The training of doctoral students consists of an educational activity consisting of cycles of lectures and seminars held by the professors of the doctorate Scientific Committee, by other professors of Sapienza University and by external experts.

PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT POSSIBILITIES
The skills acquired during the PhD program will contribute to create young professionals who can meet the needs of the labour market in both national and international, public and private structures. The possible employment opportunities are represented by the recruitment in Universities and other public or private research centers and in the pharmaceutical industry. In particular, the in-depth study on the subject of Pharmacoepidemiology, Pharmacogenetics, Pharmacovigilance and Toxicology often allows PhDs in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Sapienza University of Rome to find employment in public (University, Ministry of Health, Istituto Superiore di sanità, AIFA, Regioni, Hospitals) and private (Pharmaceutical and biomedical companies, Health Companies) facilities.
