The final exam will consist of a written and/or oral test. The format may change from one exam session to another, and may be online or face to face, depending on the current situation. Students will be advised well in advance what format to expect.

The exam will include one or any combination of the following: 1) grammar, 2)  Vocabulary, 3) Writing, 4) Speaking (Oral exam). The writing section consists of writing a composition of 220-250 words.

For the oral exam  Students need to read a book of their choice (written in English and not translated in English). You should choose a recent book of this century (or of the latter part of the previous one- from the 1980s onwards-, a contemporary book).  You should take notes on vocabulary while reading the book, which you must bring to the oral exam: in a notebook write the words or phrases you didn't know, their meaning in that context, and the page number where the word or phrase is found. You should read the book also for the written exam.

DIPARTIMENTO "ISTITUTO ITALIANO DI STUDI ORIENTALI - ISO"

ENG1 @ISO is 2-semester language course for all first-year ISO students in ‘Canale 1’ (Chinese, Japanese, Korean).

Dr Darcy Di Mona is the teacher for ENG 1 Canale 2 students.

You need to pass our exam with an 18 (June, Sept, January and appelli straordinari) to take the Socioinguistics exam with Prof. Gaballo.

If you have a B2 certificate for a Cambridge exam in the last two years, or IELTS or more Advanced CambrIdge exam (no expiry) you will not have to take this exam: please email a scanned copy of your certification at alexandra.smit@uniroma1.it.
