The final exam will consist of a written and/or oral test. The format may change from one exam session to another, and may be online or face to face, depending on the current situation. Students will be advised well in advance what format to expect.

The exam will include one or any combination of the following: 1) grammar, 2)  Vocabulary, 3) Writing, 4) Speaking (Oral exam). The writing section consists of writing a composition of 220-250 words.

For the oral exam  Students need to read a book of their choice (in English). You should choose a recent book of this century (or of the latter part of the previous one, a contemporary book).  You should take notes on vocabulary while reading the book, which you must bring to the oral exam: in a notebook write the words or phrases you didn't know, their meaning in that context, and the page number where the word or phrase is found. You should read the book also for the written exam.

Please send an email with your choice of book before enrolling for the exam at alexandra.smit@uniroma1.it

ENG1 @ISO is 2-semester language course for all first-year ISO students in ‘Canale 1’ (Chinese, Japanese).

Dr Darcy Di Mona is the teacher for ENG 1 Canale 2 students.

You need to pass our exam with an 18 (June, Sept, January and appelli straordinari) to take the Linguistics exam with Prof. Morbiducci.

ONLY FOR ISO STUDENTS:
If you have a B2 certificate for a Cambridge exam in the last two years, or IELTS or more Advanced CambrIdge exam (no expiry) you will not have to take this exam: please email a scanned copy of your certification at alexandra.smit@uniroma1.it.
Please name the file with your name and surname (i.e. Mario Rossi’s certification will be Mario Rossi.pdf)

We will be using the textbook KEYNOTE UPPER INTERMEDIATE, published by Cengage/National Geographic, and completing the first 8 units. Each unit is built around an edited TED Talk and we study the key vocabulary and grammar that comes out of the talk, plus there is a separate limited grammar section and a third section with a themed reading.

Students can buy the book on the webshop Cengage Learning using the discount code 'RUDY15' to receive a 15% discount on the total price at:

https://www.ilpiacerediapprendere.it/keynote-upper-intermediate-student-...

The multiple-choice exam is all about the key vocabulary and key grammar in the first eight units of the book.

There may be an optional listening exam in class, but this depends on the way the pandemic goes.
