WOODEN LEATHER
Lightweight, skin-like material made from silkworm cocoons. It is part of the "From Insect" collection, characterized by materials and products obtained "in collaboration" with insects. Specifically, Wooden Leather is obtained from sericin, a natural glue contained in the cocoons which, when wet and heated, reactivates, joins the fibers and forms a material similar to paper. This paper is in turn painted and layered with another bio-glue made by the designer, similar to the resin that bees use as a sealant for their hives. The result is a fragrant vegetable skin with a woody appearance.
