FROM PEEL TO PEEL

Bio-synergies

Biobased material made from the fermentation of a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts with waste apple peels, designed as a valid alternative to plastic for sustainable packaging. In particular, the waste is immersed in water with the culture and an acetic compound, so that the microorganisms feed with fructose and vitamins naturally contained in the apple peels and convert them into resistant layers of nancellulose. The process takes two to four weeks depending on the desired thickness, after which the material is arranged into the desired shape and dried. The colors vary according to the waste.
