    Aims:

The course offers, through significant cases of Provincial Archaeology, wide knowledge of the Roman Provincial culture, of relationship between centre and periphery, as well as a framework of the main historical, cultural and religious dynamics regarding the Western and Eastern Provinces.  The course will focus on urban landscape as well as on the sacred space. The course 2022 focuses on the Anatolian Landscape. The urban landscape is the very center of civic life in the cities of the Empire; it is the core of local identities, a place of intense social communication and meeting place of citizens. The city is the center of the imperial life in which the interests and ambitions of individuals were counterbalanced against the needs and expectations of the community. The cities of Provincia Asia are particularly exemplary of that process of acculturation triggered by Rome in the conquered territories, which reflect the assimilation-acculturation dynamics enhanced by the Roman Empire.

    Course organization:

The course includes a series of lectures, together with seminars on specific themes and workshop activity 2022 “FROM ROME TO ANATOLIA. An Exhibition project on the Photo-Archive Carettoni-Fabbrini”. There will be a selection of students in order to take part at research travel in Turkey in 2022. The students will have the opportunity to take part at archaeological missions in Asia Minor.
