Archaeometry. Physical Methods for Cultural Heritage
The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge about the investigation methodologies used to study materials and artworks processing techniques, as well as for dating of the archaeological heritage products. In detail, rudiments of the main non-destructive techniques will be provided (such as macro-photographs, UV fluorescence, radiography). For the material characterization and the determination of the artwork origins, research methods such as XRF and neutron activation will be discussed. For materials dating, the course will deal with the techniques of thermoluminescence, dendrochronology, radiocarbon (14C) and fission-track.
