Buzi, Paola
Paola Buzi is Full Professor of Egyptology and Coptic Civilization. She studied Egyptology with Alessandro Roccati and Coptic language and literature with Tito Orlandi, earning a PhD in Egyptology in 2002. For five years she has collaborated with the Department of Archaeology of the Alma Mater University of Bologna as a research fellow. In 2010 she worked at the Universität Hamburg, on behalf of the Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen.
She has always combined historical-literary and manuscriptological interests with archaeological research, both in Egyptology and Coptology.
She co-directs the joint mission of the University of Bologna and Sapienza University in Bakchias (Fayyum, Egypt), directs the mission in Hugair Gubli (Sudan, IV cataract) and is deputy-director of the mission in Manqabad (Assyut, Egypt) directed by Rosanna Pirelli (University of Naples "L'Orientale"). She is principal investigator of the ERC project “Tracking Papyrus and Parchment Paths: An Archaeological Atlas of Coptic Literature” and of the FARE project “Sacri lapides Aegypti”.
Laboratories are active as part of the scientific activities of the ERC project "PAThs" (paths.uniroma1.it); visits to Egyptological collections located in Rome are possible.
