Di Cesare, Michelina
Michelina Di Cesare is Associate Professor of Islamic Archaeology and Art History since 2019. She studied at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" (LVO 1999; PhD 2006), the University of Cassino (Post-lauream Diploma 2002), the University of Naples "L'Orientale" (PhD 2017) and pursued her research at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz-Max-Planck-Institut in Florence (2007-2010), the Italian Institute for Historical Studies in Naples (2010-2011), the International Consortium for Research in the Humanities "Fate, Freedom and Prognostication. Strategies for Coping with the Future in East Asia and Europe" of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (2012-2013; 2015), the Department of Sciences of Antiquity of Sapienza University of Rome (2013-2014; 2016-2019).
Her research interests include the history of early Islamic architecture and urban planning, iconography and iconology, the relationships between textual sources and material culture, the reception of Islamic culture in Medieval and Modern Europe. She currently directs "A Survey of the Great Mosque-Palace Complex of Kufa, Najaf", a of the Department of Sciences of Antiquity of Sapienza University of Rome and the State Board for Antiquities and Heritage of Iraq (2019-2022).
