    Profile: 

    Andrea Cardarelli is an archaeologist whose primary research interest focuses on European and Mediterranean Prehistory and Protohistory. After completing his studies at the Sapienza University of Rome, he was the Director of the Archaeological and Ethnological Museum of Modena from 1982 to 2002. Since 2002 he is Full Professor of Prehistory and Protohistory, first at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and since 2007 at the Sapienza University of Rome. He has directed or co-directed a number of archaeological excavations in Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements and cemeteries. These include in the Emilia area: Casinalbo,Tabina di Magreta, Baggiovara, Gaggio di Castelfranco Emilia, Cave Macchioni di Spilamberto, Campagnola di Palagano, Monte S.Giulia di Monchio, Cava Fallona di Savignano; in central Italy: Pieve di Carpegna (PU), Monte Cimino (Soriano nel Cimino – VT), Monte Croce Guardia (Arcevia - Ancona); in southern Italy: Grotta Pavolella and Broglio di Trebisacce (CS), in collaboration with Renato Peroni.
    He has authored about 200 scientific papers, including 8 monographs or complete reports of excavations or archaeological surveys and several scientific papers published in international and national journals rated A by the Italian Scientific Agency – ANVUR.
    From 2012 onwards the number of his scientific productions has exceeded the minimum values of the indicators of scientific qualification for Commissioner in the National Scientific Qualification - ANVUR.
    He is the coordinator of both the Archeology section at the Department of Antiquity Sciences – Sapienza University and the Prehistory curriculum of the PhD school in Archaeology at the same Department.
    He has conceived and coordinated a number of archaeological exhibitions, including the large exhibition “Terramare.La più antica cività padana” (Modena 1997, with M. Bernabò Brea and M. Cremaschi); “Le Urne dei Forti. Storie di vita e di morte in una comunità dell’età del Bronzo" (Modena 2014, with C. Zanasi); "Etruschi Maestri artigiani” (Cerveteri-Tarquinia 2019, with A. Naso).
    From 1998 to 2004 he directed the European project “Archeolive; archeological park of European Protohistory", funded under the Raphael Program (EU); in this framework he planned and developed the archaeological park and open-air museum of the Montale terramara. During forty years of scientific activity he has organized several national and international conferences.
