Excavation on the northeastern slope of the Palatine Hill (Rome)

The excavation area, located within the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum, includes part of the NE slope of the Palatine Hill and corresponds to one of the most important sites for the knowledge of the history of Rome. The Department of Antiquities has been working in this area under concession since 2001. In past years, investigations have covered 2,500 square metres of the hillside, intercepting three millennia of history, but have not exhausted the knowledge potential of this area in the oldest heart of the ancient city.
