I was born in Barcelona (Spain) in 1968. I currently live in Barcelona.I have graduated in Librarianship by the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and in Documentation by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC).
After working for a short period of time in the publishing world, I began my work as a librarian in the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB).
Since 1992, I’m a librarian at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB).
Additionally, I have participated as a professional in several libraries of the different Campuses of the UB, and since 2003, I have coordinated training services in the libraries of Education, Psychology, and Health Science Campus.
Nowadays I work in a management position at Clinical Campus Medicine Library.
I often participate as an expert trainer in informational skills in UB’s masters and postgraduate courses, and as such, I collaborate with centres such as Institut de Ciències de l’Educació (ICE) or IL3-Instituto de Formación Continua and Universitat Politécnica de Barcelona.
Abstract
The role of our CRAI as a complement on higher education: information skills for future health professionals
Since 2004, the University Libraries have had the opportunity to grow and adapt to the new demands of the educational model, with the implementation of the new European Higher Education Area.
Thus, the libraries of the different University Campuses at the Universitat de Barcelona began their process of transformation, adapting their spaces and expanding their resources and services in order to serve the university community: undergraduate students, postgraduate students, professors and researchers.
One of the services that was transformed to meet the new requirements was the user training service, which went from offering a traditional training with face-to-face sessions on the correct use of databases and documentary sources, to offering training in informational skills. That helps the user to develop basic skills for the location, evaluation and responsible use of the information, thus supporting the new model of teaching of the EHEA.
The importance of this service lies in the possibility that it offers libraries to participate in training the future student and collaborating in this way with the University Professors.
Skills training provides students with the knowledge, resources and tools to produce a professional able to self-train throughout their lives, with the tools and resources of permanent updating, thus contributing to the quality of our institution.
