Aims:
The course aims to provide students with the first methodological tools in the field of epigraphy from the late ancient age until the sixteenth century, with particular regard to the medieval inscriptions of Rome. The teaching objectives are: to develop the ability to reflect on written forms and on the forms of transmission of medieval epigraphic texts; to provide the main tools for critical editions of epigraphic texts; retrace the production cycle of the epigraphic artifacts with particular regard to the processing techniques. The achievement of these objectives will allow the student to acquire the skills for critical analysis of medieval epigraphic artifacts.
Course organization:
The course is divided into lectures, seminar exercises and visits to the main epigraphic collections in Rome.
